We also believe emotional and mental wellbeing is something you build and strengthen over time. Through therapy, you can learn practical tools, deeper self-understanding, and healthier ways of living that support not just relief, but resilience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both formats offer the same level of support, care, and therapeutic depth — they just look a little different.

In-person counseling happens in a private, comfortable office space where you can physically step away from your day-to-day and settle in. Some clients prefer in-person sessions because they like the ritual of coming to the office.

Virtual therapy happens from the comfort of your home (or car or lunch break spot), through a secure, easy-to-use video platform. Many clients love virtual sessions because they’re convenient, flexible, and eliminate travel time.

Both formats work — the best choice is the one that helps you show up consistently and feel safe.

At Amavita Counseling, we draw from evidence-based, practical, and mind-body approaches including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – to help shift patterns of thought and behavior.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) – to help you move toward what matters with more clarity and less struggle.
  • Mindfulness-based practices – to help calm the nervous system and increase awareness.
  • Somatic approaches – to help you reconnect with your body and reduce anxiety at the physiological level.
  • Psychodynamic theory – understanding how your past continues to impact your current-day experiences.

Your counseling will integrate these approaches based on what works best for you — not a one-size-fits-all model.

Many of our clients are thoughtful, capable adults who are used to managing a lot of responsibility, professionally and personally, but may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected internally.

While we work with a range of individuals, our approach is particularly well-suited to those who want a space to slow down, reflect, and find a steadier sense of direction.

A standard therapy session is 50 minutes.

Research shows that clients benefit the most from weekly sessions. At Amavita Counseling, we work to set you up with a consistent weekly session to help maintain consistency and accountability with the work you’re doing in counseling. If your schedule is unpredictable, we can work with that too.

Some situations might call for more frequent sessions, but you and your therapist can determine that in your time together based on your unique needs and story.

As to the full duration of time spent in therapy? It depends on the extent of your situation and story. You and your therapist can discuss this as part of your goals for treatment.

Yes, we accept insurance. We are currently in-network with Highmark BCBS, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Cigna.

If your insurance provider is not listed, we can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement, which you can submit directly to your insurance company.

Your first few sessions are simply getting-to-know-you conversations. Your therapist will talk about what brought you in, what all you currently struggle with, and what you’d like your life to look like by the time you’re done with therapy. Your therapist will also ask questions to better understand some of your history, current strategies and your specific goals.

There’s no pressure to have everything figured out — You start right where you are, with honesty and plenty of curiosity for yourself and the process.

(Lying on the couch is purely optional!)

Yes, therapy can be very effective in helping you manage stress and anxiety.

Together, we work to understand how stress and anxiety are showing up in your life, and develop ways to respond that feel calmer, more grounded, and more manageable. The goal isn’t to eliminate stress entirely, but to help you feel more in control and supported in how you navigate it.

The easiest way to get started is by scheduling a free 20-minute consultation.

You can contact us by phone or email, or use the contact form on the website. From there, we’ll connect with you to learn more about what you’re looking for and help you take the next step.

Everyone has ups and downs throughout their daily lives. But initially, you may notice that there are more downs than ups, and it’s beginning to have a negative effect on your relationships, your ability to do your job or even enjoy the stuff of life you used to thrive on.

Therapy may be a good fit if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in old patterns, exhausted by life, disconnected from yourself, or simply wanting things to feel better than they do right now.

If you’ve been thinking, “Something needs to change, I just don’t know where to start,” therapy is a great place to begin.

Totally normal. Many people worry about this, including current clients! You don’t need a script or a perfect starting point. Your therapist will be able to ask questions that will help guide you where you need to go in a given session.

Some of the best sessions start with, “I’m not sure where to begin.” And end with, “who knew that would happen, but it was exactly what I needed!”

The cost of therapy can vary depending on the type of service and your insurance coverage.

We’re happy to discuss fees, insurance, and payment options during your initial consultation, so you have a clear understanding before moving forward.

High achievers carry heavy loads — decision-making pressure, long hours, constant responsibility, and the expectation to “keep it together” at all times. It can even feel lonely. Therapy can help you:

  • Rewiring the anxiety and stress dial
  • Understanding emotions in a way that benefits you
  • Clarifying goals, priorities, and what truly matters
  • Strengthening communication and leadership – emotional intelligence is a key skill set in leadership these days
  • Rebuilding a healthier relationship with work and rest
  • Preventing burnout before it sidelines you
  • Feeling more grounded, confident, and genuinely present

For example, a client, who came in to walk through their grief, said that the work done in therapy had actually helped them become a better and more effective leader and manager in the workplace – a great and unexpected side-effect of counseling!

You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through success. Therapy gives you space to breathe, reset, and step into a life you actually enjoy living.

Ready to Love Your Life Again?

Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, or simply ready for change, therapy can help you move forward. You don’t have to do it alone.
